Our submission process is intentionally low-barrier so that you, the author, have opportunities here that you won’t find elsewhere. While we cannot possibly accept all of the submissions we receive, we endeavor to provide feedback where we are able.

Please note that GenderWild Press is not a hybrid or vanity publisher. We do not accept previously published work, manuscripts created with generative AI tools*, or self-published titles.

General guidelines

• Accepted authors identify themselves within the transgender/intersex/nonbinary/genderqueer spectrum. We are very excited to publish works by authors who also come from neurodiverse, BIPOC, AANHPI, disabled, chronically ill, and immigrant communities. We do not accept submissions from cis allies, though we do appreciate your support and advocacy.
• Submissions must be in English.
• Please allow sufficient time for us to review your submission. Requests for feedback may not be answered if we are busy. We endeavor to provide feedback to submissions as we are able.
• Simultaneous submissions should be clearly identified and immediately withdrawn if accepted elsewhere. This must be noted in your cover letter.
• We currently accept submissions by email only. Be sure to save our email address so that any responses we send don’t end up in the spam or trash folders.
• Agents are not required. Your agent is welcome to contact us. Unagented submissions are always welcome.

*We do not accept work that has been created using AI with the exception of those tools which enable authors to write where disability or illness would otherwise prevent them. Please ask us if you have questions about this. Learn more about generative AI at this link.

What to Include in Your Submission

• Manuscripts must be complete and provisionally edited. We do not require that manuscripts be professionally edited as this can be a substantial cost barrier for authors. Sensitivity readers are strongly suggested for all submissions.
• Manuscripts must be in Microsoft Word, rich text (RTF), or PDF format. We will not accept Google docs, printed copies sent by mail, or any other format. Files must be under 5MB to ensure delivery.
• Manuscripts require page numbers on all pages.
• Incomplete manuscripts or “pitches” for ideas will not be accepted.
• Please provide a cover letter with the following:
  • Include a brief description of the manuscript. This should read like the inside cover blurb for the book such that it hooks your reader for the journey ahead. Please indicate the genre that best fits your work.
  • Include an analysis of your book’s audience. Who wants to read your book? Provide a list of similar titles that are already available on the market including a brief explanation of how your manuscript differs.
  • Provide an author bio (100 words max). Include any publishing credits or relevant credentials (if applicable). We encourage you to express your identity in a way that feels genuine to you. Pen names are fine to use.
  • Be sure to include your contact information. Please provide us with your name and an email address.
• Artwork, maps, and images should not be included in your submission.
• Submitting your manuscript is completely free. GenderWild Press does not ask for any fees or money for submissions.
